The Burton Mail has reported on a recent HSE (Health and Safety Executive) prosecution of local tyre manufacturer Pirelli.
A young male apprentice suffered a very serious hand injury, including amputation of a finger and the need for three episodes of surgery. He was using a metalwork lathe when his hand was drawn into a moving part of the machine.
The HSE found deficiencies in terms of the company’s control measures for preventing such an accident and a lack of risk assessments. The company pleaded guilty.
